Careers

Bellingen High School students study Careers as an in line subject in Year 10. The course consists of self awareness activities in Term 1 that develops into research into Tertiary training, job opportunities and career options. Each student constructs a Resume and completes a Work Safety course.

An important part of Year 10 is devoted to subject selection for year 11 and 12. Students are given intensive information about subjects as well as assistance in combining these subjects to maximize their range of options post year12. Parents are invited to a Senior Subject night to assist their sons or daughters through this decision making process.

Year 10 culminates in a 2 week Work Experience block where students immerse themselves in the workforce before they undertake senior studies.

Students in the Senior years are assisted with their appropriate subject choice for HSC and UAI requirements. Students in Year 9 and in some cases year 8 also have the opportunity to develop work skills and experience a part time Work Release program. Some students have gained Apprenticeships and Traineeships through this program.

The Coffs Harbour District Careers Adviser Association, organizes Careers Markets, tertiary information days, University tours among other activities. Bellingen High School students are able to attend any of these activities.
